Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his initial championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since spring of that year.
The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.
The player's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, supported by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to create a third set.
The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a close final set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
